The Lives Saved Tool
The Lives Saved Tool (LiST) is a freely available, computer based software tool that allows users to look at the potential impact of one or many maternal, newborn and child interventions on one or many causes of death without double counting their impact. List uses changes in intervention coverage and cause-specific effectiveness estimates on mortality and risk factors to model overall changes in mortality as well as to attribute mortality reduction to specific interventions. Scenarios developed using LiST provide a data-based platform for program managers, researchers or ministry of health personnel to combine the best scientific information about effectiveness of interventions for maternal, neonatal and child health with information about cause of death and current coverage of interventions. Results can be used to inform their planning and decision-making, to help prioritize investments and evaluate existing programs.
Following collaborations with the John’s Hopkins University, a LiST team at was established and today the Centre for Maternal and Newborn Health is on its way to becoming the regional centre for LiST in Africa.
Our vision is to build a community of LiST users in Uganda and Africa. We would like implementers, planners, programmers etc trained in LiST to harness the great potential of impact modeling that LiST avails for national, subnational and missed opportunities projections.
Progress so far
